Wisdom teeth problems (this is the only category where people are actually awnsering questions)?

is there any advice anyone who has had this precedjure can give me that would ease some of the really heavy pain Im having other than pain medicine, I have visited the dentist and it is healing fine, no infection I just want some advice for anything that made you feel better.

Just a side note its been exactly a week sence the surguery.

also, does anyone else have those little plastic syringes that your supposed to literally stick in the painful hole and shoot out water or whatever?

Is it neccesary because it hurts!!! are there any easier ways to clean it out?

You can always use pain relievers, Ibuprofen is the best for something like that. Try alternating between hot and cold compresses on your cheeks, and gargle with a salt water mixture instead of shooting water into the wounds. 1 tbsp or salt and a small glass of warm water. Gargle 2-3 times a day for about 30 seconds and the salt water will kill any bacteria or other ickies, afterward give it a good rinse with normal warm water. It won't taste the best but it'll do better than the syringes will. Hope this helps and all the best to you!
Reply:And suburb cat your awnser was great I would have given you the best awnser had I thought you need it. keep the good advice coming. Report It

Reply:rinse mouth out with water often

use a sugar free gum to patch

dont eat sugar for a week
Reply:I gargled alot of Listerine...but you might want to try Ora-jel it'll at least numb the gum
Reply:Try rinsing with salted warm water. Also bonjela or something like that which is rubbed onto the gums to deaden the gum, usually used for teething babies have used myself. Good stuff. Purchased from chemist.
Reply:make sure you arent lifting anything heavy (including little ones if you can), this tends to pull on the gums and the sockets wont heal. Hope you feel better soon!
Reply:use salt water to rinse ... it shouldn't take much longer if it does better see the dentist .I used hydrogen peroxide on mine and alleve for the pain but don't swallow the stuff.
Reply:Hey, I already answered your question once in the Health section tonight. Do you realize what time it is in the USA? Most people are asleep, which is why you're not getting many answers. BTW don't use Oragel on an open mouth sore. You'll hit the ceiling! (been there, done that)
Reply:I wouldn't know because I still have all my wisdom teeth and have been told by several dentists that there is no need to ever have them removed.

In many cases, wisdom teeth do not need to be removed and dentists only encourage it out of ignorance and/or the desire for more money for performing surgery.

I know this answer might not help you. However, hopefully there will be someone who reads your question and this answer and is able to avoid the unnecessary pain of having their teeth removed.
Reply:first a question: did you get a wisdom tooth removed? or did you get a root canal? If it's a root cana; i don't know the answer cuz i never had one, but i did have a wisdom tooth pulled and it is not supposed to hurt so bad after a week! you gotta go back to the dentist and really tell him to take another look as to why you are still in pain.

The day i got mine pulled, while the novacane was still in effect, i was able to eat taco bell with no pain! Then after it wore off, there was very little pain anyway. I only took a vicodeine at bedtime cuz thats when it would kick in, which makes sense cuz your head is down.

p.s. i;m a wuss when it comes to pain, and my pulled wisdom tooth was not that bad.

good luck
Reply:I know it is so uncomfortable. I used a heating pad one of those that you put in the micro-wave.

You should keep up what ever cleaning instructions they gave you or you could get an abscess.

I also used to rinse with a warm saline solution.

Then I would drink a warm toddy...Not if you are on heavy meds though.
Reply:Just a little pain killer like a paracetamol pill every 6 hours will help you through over the next few days. After that everything will be fine.
Reply:Sorry. I never got Wisom teeth. My back molars fused with the ones in front of them and made realy big chompers. A fortune to cap. I hate teeth stuff. No help. Sorry.
Reply:You need to keep them clean so they will heal quickly.. and cleaning them CAN be a real PAINFUL experience...

as mentioned above.. Orajel helps for a time.. use it right before you clean them...

Ice helps too.. it numbs the area if you can put up with the cold for a while on your other teeth...

Cleaning requires a lot of work if you don't use the syringes.. and is not as effective.. but you can gargle with listerine and really swish it around to help clean some of the easier stuff before using the syringe.
Reply:Rinse with salt or baking soda in warm water. I find baking soda more soothing, but both have antibacterial qualities, which helps the healing process.
Reply:The warm salt water is the best. Anti inflamitories like motrin or advil for pain and swelling. Avoid coffee, tea, pops/sodas, smoking. Anything with sugars. Hot beverages. You should be fine in no time. I didnt do the syringe thingy. No way. And I did all four teeth at once and had to have part of the gum cut out because of the teeth growing wrong. Just be cautious and a little common sense and you'll do fine. The listerin is good to. Kills germs. Stings a little but is good for you. Good luck! Hope that the pain subsides.
Reply:god did it.
Reply:Drink cool - not cold or hot - mint tea with just smidge o sugar. Allow the tea to flow over the area in your mouth but don't gargle or swish it around. Stay away from salty foods. Apply a cold compress to the outside and keep your mouth clean using diluted mouth wash gently rinsed through. Don't chew gum, eat hard, crusty, chewie foods or hot or cold foods...try to keep your mouth at an even temperature. The mint tea will feel so good. Love in Christ, ~J~ DON'T rinse with hot salt water...this is one of the most ridiculous things people do after oral surgery...messes with the mouths natuaral enzymes and irritates the wound. K?
