i am currently undergoing a treatment for my t.m.j. disorder, but at the same time, i am having problems with my wisdom teeth. when i yawn, i try my best not to open my mouth too wide. but still my lower left jaw hurts a lot. what should i do?
T.m.j. disorder and wisdom teeth problems.what should be my priority?
The wisdom teeth should be removed, they can add to your TMJ issues or in some cases they may be the cause of them. GOOD LUCK!
Reply:Oral surgery would be my guess. Time to remove the wisdom teeth, then fix the tmj.
Reply:Get your wisdom teeth out, then talk to your dentist about your tmj. It's possible that it's aggravated by clenching/grinding your teeth at night, in which case s/he can give you a mouthguard to wear at night. Also I would recommend seeing a chiropractor - when your neck is out of whack, it can affect the adjustment of your jaw, which will make the muscles hurt like no tomorrow. Wisdom teeth suck, and if they're causing you problems, just get them out; there's no use in trying to fix your tmj if any progress is only going to be hindered by those damnable teeth.
Reply:I think I have the same problem. Does your jaw just click when you open it too wide? When I first started having this problem i FREAKED OUT because I didn't think i'd be able to get my mouth closed! It still kinda bothers me!! haha.. but I would get your wisdom teeth out. It may not help your TMJ but i think that'd be first priority.. I don't think there's a cure for TMJ right now, only not opening your mouth too wide. I've had it my whole life, and i'm 19, and i've just learned to live with it. It is habit now that i don't open my mouth too wide. it's really not that bad whe you don't think about it. but go see your dentist and see what he thinks before doing anything drastic
Reply:Oh im so sorry. I dont have a good answer, but you were nice on my question so i thought i would see who you were. Whatever you decide to do i wish you lluck
