I have a problem with the jaw that effects the teeth. When I look at my teeth there's a gap in the middle and my teeth are not lined up. I have gone to about 2 orthodontists that I remember. They all say I have the problem with the jaw.
One says that I need to get a jaw surgery because of that and the TMJ.
The other says I need braces so there's a 50/50 chance of fixing it, or my lower jaw would come forth. Some of my friends/family member tell me that my jaw is kind of cricked. I'm not sure if I get braces now, I'm afraid that I might get another one after the surgery because of $$$. I don't know what to do right now, can someone specifically tell me?
Jaw/Teeth Problem?
My daughter has a problem with her jaw. Every time she chews you can hear a click. She also grinds her teeth while sleeping. Not quite sure if the two go together or not. However, she was told to wear a mouth piece (don't know the name) at night so she wouldn't grind her teeth.
She has had braces in high school. She's now 37 yrs. old.
Sounds like you have a jaw problem. Jaws are probably not coming together the way they should
As for my daughter, it wasn't the braces that brought this on. Her jaw problems started a couple of years ago.
If you need to, get a third opinion, I suggest you do so. Having braces isn't going to alien the jaw.
Reply:well my friend has a jaw prolem go to physical therapy it works for her. like once a week
Reply:see a chiropractor
Reply:Hi, I am surprised that the orthodontists did not refer you to an oral surgeon. Usually the 2 work together for jaw surgery cases and most jaw surgeries require orthodontics prior to the surgery.
I have jaw problems as well and wore braces as a teen. It fixed my teeth but back then, nobody told me about jaw surgery. Now, as an adult, I am wearing braces a second time and scheduled for jaw surgery in a few weeks.
I would suggest you make an appointment with an oral/maxillofacial surgeon asap for a consultation. They will advise you on what is the best approach and also refer you to an orthodontist if needed. Best of luck to you.
Reply:I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like it is a TMJ problem to me.
I have the same issue and my jaw is crooked too. I have a bit of a gap and my teeth are not lined up either. I have severe pain in my jaw which radiates to my temple, cheeks, neck, the base of my skull, my shoulders, and all the way down to my thoracic spine. The pain is awful.
If I were you, I would NOT NOT NOT have TMJ surgery. Google it. Research it. First of all, most insurance companies will not pay for it. Secondly, in a huge number of cases, the surgery makes the problem WORSE, not better. I knew a nurse who assisted in those surgeries. She said in almost all cases that she assisted on, the problem intensified. She also said that the surgery and recovery is brutal and she wouldn't suggest doing it at all. They unhinge your face .. literally ..
I can't give an opinion on braces. It's not something I have consulted on.
I can tell you that I have recently discovered two remedies that are amazing. The pain is reduced considerably, actually almost completely. Obviously it isn't fixing the alignment problem, but I think I'm going to have to live with that.
I oil pull with unrefined, cold pressed sesame oil at least 2 times a day. I felt relief after the first pull. Here is information about that:

Here is info and instructions on how to oil pull. The only thing I would add is that you should brush your teeth before and after oil pulling.

The other thing I do which gives even more relief is found here:

It sounds crazy, but it helps more than you can imagine and the results are immediate. You can literally feel the sensation or relief within minutes.
I hope what I have said makes you highly consider not having surgery. At least research it thorougly before you make up your mind.
Good luck.
