Can this be serious????? Teeth problem with Child..?

Ok, so my two year old's gum are like a blood red color around the top part of his mouth and towards the back part of his right side of his mouth. ( He does have a tooth coming in at the top on the right side) but on the back part, I can't tell if he has a tooth coming in or not. But when I went to brush his teeth tonight, they started to bleed and he cried and won't let me look. Could this be a gum dieses?( sorry on spelling) ( I brush his teeth twice a day, once in the morning and once at night) I'm just not sure if it has to do with the teeth coming in or what?... Has anybody else had this problem with their children? And can children at his age go to the dentist? I don't want to take him to the dentist and terrify him of them at such an early age! Can I put anything on his gums to make the pain go away ( such as orajel) or should I just leave it alone? HELP!!

Can this be serious????? Teeth problem with Child..?
Children can go to the dentist at pretty much any age. I believe the ADA recommends a first visit by the age of 1 or within 6 months of their first tooth coming in. Certainly by age 2 they can visit the dentist. They would be best qualified to determine the problem with your child's gums as red, swollen and bleeding are unusual even with teething going on (unless localized to the teething area).

Baby Orajel is safe to use on a 2 year old for %26lt;u%26gt;temporary%26lt;/u%26gt; relief of pain. If you can get him to swish with warm salt water (1 tsp salt for 8 oz water) without swallowing it, that will often clear up a minor mouth irritation or gum inflamation.
Reply:does he have a white film on his tongue? if he does then that could mean thrush and that will irritate his gums.......if you have been brushing his teeth on a regular basis then it should not be gum disease since he is so young...but there is always that possiblity if you have a family history of gum disease...but I come closer to believing it is some sort of infection.
Reply:A two year old should be going to the dentist. They are usually fabulous with kids this age and very gentle and kind. Positive experience early in life will help him avoid a fear of dentists.
Reply:Maybe his 2nd molars are coming in. If he has a dull fever give him tylenol, the recommened dose for his weight. If a tooth doesn't erupt in a week or two, call his pediatrition, or dentist. Also, you could call his pediatrition if you are really alarmed. They should beable to see him the day you call.
