Can a tooth extraction cause problems with other teeth in the surrounding area?

Not to my knowledge, but pulling a tooth can sever nerves in your upper or lower jaw if the root is long enough and it's not pulled correctly.

Can a tooth extraction cause problems with other teeth in the surrounding area?
Yes. The tooth extracted, if surrounded by teeth on either side, will see a slow shift (years) of the teeth to close the gap. Assuming there isn't an implant afterwards, the jawbone may also recede.

Obviously, it's best to ask a dentist as I'm sure there are other factors.
Reply:yes, the teeth could move closer to fill the space, you could have some bone loss, or the remaining teeth could rotate and become crooked.

there is such thing as a spacer though so it will keep the teeth in the same spot, or you can get a bridge, or an implant.
