I said i don't want them removed. He still insisted and i still told him that i didn't want to.
Do you think i did the right thing. Should wisdom teeth be removed if there not causing you any problems?
My dentist wants me to removie my wisdome teeth, even though there not causing me any problems. Help?
I had a Dentist LIE to me about my wisdom teeth once. Told me the truth about them growing in straight and I had room for them, but said I had cavities in 3 of them. He could fill them, but it would be uncomfortable, and eventually, they would need to be pulled anyway.
I didn't listen to him. I'm 45 years old and still have 3 of those 4 wisdom teeth (one did give me problems 17 years later than that first "diagnosis").
If any Doctor seems more interested in doing whatever is easier for them, or whatever makes money for them, go find another medical practitioner.
Reply:Yes, it is your body, you can do with it what you wish.
Saying that, he probably could see that in the future you will have problems and they will need to be removed then. When is it harder and more painful. Also remember he gets paid for the more work he does, so that could be a reason he is insisting
Reply:well first, have your teeth fully come in?
seccond, for a lot of people, their wisdom teeth don't bother them but over time they make your mouth to crowded and slowly move your other teeth
make an appointment with your dentist and discuss WHY you need your teeth removed.
Reply:Many times they have their reasons, actually several. 1. Even if they don't hurt, that doesn't mean they are not causing problems. They often are impacted into the teeth in front of them which over time can cause damage to your second molars causing them to have to be extracted. Also, they can form tumors over time. 2. Even if they are fully erupted, they can cause gum problems. They hold a lot of bacteria and people with wisdom teeth often have more problems with gum disease/bone loss. 3. Eventually, people who keep them get cavities and need them removed. Having them removed later in life is much more complicated. Bone and nerves are more set and removing them can cause major trauma, including nerve damage that causes loss of sensation to parts of the tongue, jaw, and face permanently or temporarily along with severe bruising, swelling, and large amounts of bone loss to the jaw. It is much easier to have done earlier in life.
4. Anyone who has had braces should have them removed to prevent their teeth from recrowding and wasting your money.
Reply:if they have not grown in but appear impacted on xrays, then yes i think the dentist is right and thay you should get them removed inase they do grow in and cause complications, lke mess up the alignment of your teeth. thats what happened to me.
i actually had 8 teeth pulled, all four widsoms taken our before they even came in when i was 17. now i hear all my college buddies complain about toothaches from their wisdom teeth growing, other infections like pericornitis etc. and im glad i never had to deal with any of that.
wisdom teeth are vestigal, meaning they serve no function so it doesnt harm you if u get them out anyways to avoid the hassle and pain of them growing in.
Reply:no, not every case having wisdom teeth needs extraction
Reply:If they are impacted, get them extracted. If they are impacted they could push up against your other teeth causing your teeth to shift. Mine were that bad. My one wisdom tooth actually broke the root of my other molar.
If they are erupted, above the gum line, it is better to get them extracted as you may have complications down the road.
It is your decision though, don't let anyone force you into anything.
