I'm 18. I have both top teeth, part of my bottom left one is grown out and the right one hasn't gone through my gums yet. Yesterday I bit down on a piece of pizza crust. I bit down on it with my top right wisdom tooth, and of course, the bottom right tooth isn't showing yet. It hurt really, really bad. Now I can't bite down on anything in that spot, it really hurts a lot. I'm going to the dentist, but what could that be? How come almost everyone has their wisdom teeth pulled?
Why do so many people have problems with their wisdom teeth?
Because usually you don't have enough room for them to come in or they come on crooked. If you don't get your wisdom teeth out they will just cause you trouble. They can get infected and can sometimes be fatal...they can make your teeth crooked, cysts can also grow on them.I have to get all four wisdom teeth cut out very soon, not very much fun huh? oh and btw, that's called an impacted wisdom tooth.
Reply:so that your other teeth are not crammed together since you do not have room for all of them at once normally
Reply:when i went to the denist with the same problem he basically said you dont have to have your wisdom teeth pulled it just painful when they grow in which will eventually go away with time but there is no reason to have them and its very hard to brush all the way back so he suggested getting them removed
Reply:i dont have any dental problem, i dont drink any soda, in fact i havn't drinked one for a year already. if you drink soda or eat anything with alot of sugar make sure to brush your teeth thoroughly. thats how i could take care of my teeth.
Reply:Most people have problems with their wisdom teeth because their mouths are not large enough to accomodate them. The pain will go away soon, because wisdom teeth do not erupt all at once, but if you don't get them taken out, the pain will continue to return. Hope this helps!
Reply:wisdom teeth often give problems because they either start growing "into" the teeth next to them or they get infected inside the gum and stuff..i have both top wisdom teeth and they didnt give me much trouble, not gonna have them in the bottom most likely, just didnt grow lol but if your wisdom teeth dont give you any problems, there is not need to remove them.
Reply:There isn't sufficient jawbone space for the third set of molars in most people. If they are able to come in, as a rule they will force all the other teeth to shift forwards, and you end up with crooked teeth or serious buck teeth. If they don't have enough room to come through the gum where they should at all, they will be forced to try to come in somewhat sideways, pointing towards your tongue. And in worst case scenarios, they can't move into the mouth at all, and will become jammed up against the roots of the second set of molars. The results are painful to say the least, and the gums can become infected or inflammed as a result. And finally, for those folks whose teeth actually do manage to come in, it's difficult for them to brush and floss those very back molars properly or well enough to stave off decay. Since you don't actually need them to chew properly, and they tend to be problem spots, dentists usually recommend parting company with them. The earlier in the process you have them removed the easier it actually is to do and recover from. Teeth do not develop roots to anchor into the jawbone until they are in place, which means they are easier to get out. A simplier removal process is a lot easier on you to recover from, as there isn't as much physical damage done to the mouth. So, as soon as the wisdom teeth are ready to come in or have started the process, dentist will usually recommend removal. It beats waiting for the problems to show up, and in most cases they will. Then it's a real mess and a lot more pain to deal with.
Reply:We "modern humans" just don't have enough room in our jawbones for wisdom teeth! Think about the way those cavemen look in those Geico commercials...back then they needed the large jaws and extra molars to eat the uncooked, unrefined foods that they existed on. Since we don't need them anymore, wisdom teeth can just be a nuisance (kind of like your appendix, you don't need it, but if it flares up you need to have it removed!), and it's best to have them extracted when you're young, before about 25 years old. You'll heal quicker and have less potential for complications. Hope this helps.
Reply:they do cause the tooth isnt growing in right so it hurts more
